Keep On
Dan:
Keep On is a newer song with an old message. It comes from a sermon I heard years ago entitled “Keep On Keeping On” by Rev. Bob Burch. God never promised that our Christian journey would be easy, but He does promise that He will never leave us during our journey. When things are going smoothly, it’s easy to walk with Him, but during times of trial the walk is harder. We grow tired and fearful. Our faith is tested to its limits. It’s through those times that we learn to depend, trust, and test His promises. Sometimes life’s hurdles are so painful and difficult that it seems impossible to go on. That’s when He’ll take you by the hand and pull you through, or catch you as you stumble. It’s a daily walk. No matter the circumstances, we walk on, taking one step at a time with Him. Just keep on keeping on. As we were working on this album, I let a few friends who were going through some significant struggles listen to the song. It seemed to minister and comfort them. I became encouraged to see how God, in a very small way, used this song to strengthen and support my friends.
Lee:
I remember Dan had the lyrics and changes mostly worked out, but not the rhythm of the song. This is the only song on the album where the rhythm grew out of the lyrical phrasing. Mark wanted this to be a piano-based song and it fell together rather quickly.
Mark:
Now Lee and Dan had put together this perfect sounding song for which I was happy to add a guitar solo in the bridge and be done with it. But they kept pushing for more guitar. I really struggled until Dan mentioned it might need some back up vocals and my part grew out of that idea. One of my favorite things about the song is Dan’s laugh that came on an out take during some ad-libbing near the end. I wanted to keep it in the mix. When someone going through a difficult time and that person can still laugh, you know somehow they are going to be OK.
