Never Thirst
Dan:
Back in the day I used to play my trumpet on this song. While I love this tune, it’s a little depressing for me because I can no longer play my trumpet. Due to a surgery on my jaw, it’s made it very difficult getting a good tone. Sounds kind of like a moose.
Mark:
Sojourner used to open some gigs with a song called the "E-minor Blues." It was really just a warm up and sound check. It never had much to it other than a straight beat bass and answering chord with some soloing. One time we played at this Christian coffee house called House of Psalms near the UTK on 17th Street. When we listened to our set tape from that evening... let's just say one of our mics wasn't in quite the right place, because all we could hear was the sound of people buying drinks out of the coke machine.
Lee:
When WoJ took up this song we added a two note hook as a melody and let the solos grow out of that. It started as a joke when Mark asked, "What about the coke machine?" and we realized we needed to include that familiar sound. As we talked about that old concert again we wondered why the coke machine was so busy that night. The obvious answer was that the audience was thirsty. But Jesus said, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again but whoever drinks my living water will never thirst."
Mark:
We’re still looking for a good song to use a moose call . . .
